DIY: French Manicure

Unfortunately we don’t always have the time (or the money) to book manicure appointments, so learning how to do some manicures ourselves is only the smart thing to do. Today we are learning French manicures, which  are timeless, gorgeous, and fairly simple manicures to perfect. Follow the 8 easy steps below to start perfecting this artistic skill set.

Step 1: Soak Cuticles

Soak your fingers in some warm, soapy water or use some cuticle remover cream. It cleanses the skin surrounding the nail, breaking down excess cuticles, therefore making the removal process easy without having to tug at the skin.

Step 2: Cut Cuticles

Use a cuticle pusher and spoon nail Cleaner to clean out your nails. Make sure to use the spoon nail cleaner to get deep down under the nail to clean out and leftover paint in the corners.

Step 3: Shape Nails and File

Round, square, to a point — the decision is yours. Use a nail clipping tool to shape your nails into whatever shape you have finally settled on. Do not forget to file the ends smooth… Nobody wants nails that snag on every fabric while your walking around. This step is essential in the manicure process to ensure nails are smooth and not ridged in spots.

Step 4: Buff Nails

French manicures have a sophisticated richness to them; the precious pink tinted base and white tip combined appear so elegant, so we want the nail itself to mirror the finished product’s pristine aesthetic. Nail Buffers should be used on bare beds. One side of the tool will smooth out the surface, while the other side polishes nails to an all-natural luminosity.

Step 5: Apply Tinted Base Coat

The color scheme for a traditional French manicure is white tips/pink base, but these days, nail artists are getting fancy with experimentation. Sticking to the guidelines of the forever timeless technique, apply a translucent rosy tint on the nails. Be sure that the paint your using contains strengthening elements like keratin to harden the natural nail, encouraging healthy growth.

Step 6: Apply Tip Guide

Maintaining a steady hand is the key to sleek tips, but just in case your fingers are prone to trembling at inopportune times, it would be smart to get a tip guide which is available at most beauty stores. Once your top coat is completely dry, apply one strip along the bottom of your tips. Use this as a guide to evenly glide on a strip of white nail polish, then remove from the nail to reveal a flawless application.

Step 7: Paint Tips White

To top off the look, you’ll need a solid white coat that makes a statement. Apply to the tips of your fingers, or opt for a reverse French and paint a stripe at the bottom of your nail bed.

Step 8: Seal With Top Coat

This is the final and most essential step of the manicure process. Seal in the manicure with a glossy top coat to keep your tips intact for days. A top coat leaves a gorgeous glossy finish you’ll gaze at longingly throughout the entire wear.
